TSP

Truthful, Specific,

Positive Feedback®

A 3-Step Communication Method for Lasting Impact
TSP stands for Truthful, Specific, Positive Feedback®—a practical and transformational communication method developed by Michael Allossso. At its core, TSP helps people feel seen, heard, and valued, whether they’re employees, teammates, family, or friends.

We often offer feedback that is positive and  truthful. It is the specific that makes the difference.
Positive feedback without substantiation does not make the same impact. TSP builds trust, deepens connection, and improves performance and morale across any relationship or environment.

Why this might matter to you:
  • Vague praise is forgettable. Specific praise is powerful.
  • Giving TSP is a habit anyone can learn.
  • One small change can have a ripple effect throughout your organization or team.
  • When you give TSP, people repeat the excellence with more intentionality and more often.
  • Specificity is the game-changer: it's the part most people miss.
  • TSP helps fill others' emotional "buckets"—and yours, too.
EXAMPLE OF TSP
1.  Sally, you are an excellent employee and I appreciate the work you do.
2.  Sally, you are excellent employee.  I so appreciate that you show up on time to our meetings and always participate.  Thank you for the work you do.
TSP: The Horton Group: Words are very important.
Interview with Mike Zani: Fill people's buckets and yours will get filled as well.

Why it can feel tricky to give and receive TSP

Why It Can Feel Tricky to Give TSP:
  • What if I say the wrong thing?”
  • It feels outside my comfort zone
  • I’m not sure how it will land
  • I don’t want it to sound fake or forced
  • I can’t always find the right words in the moment
  • I’m worried about putting someone on the spot
  • What if they take it the wrong way?

Why It Can Feel Tricky to Receive TSP:
  • I tend to brush it off or change the subject
  • Being in the spotlight makes me uncomfortable
  • I’m not sure the feedback is real
  •  don’t always feel like I deserve it
  • Accepting it feels like bragging
  • I’m not sure what to say back
  • If it’s unexpected, I don’t know how to react
FOR LEADERS
“I believe our job as leaders is to nurture and feed those with whom we work. We do that with feedback that is truthful, specific, and positive. When we offer feedback that is specific, it becomes exponentially more impactful. Truthful or positive feedback without substantiation does not make the same impact.
Make TSP a daily habit—and watch your impact grow."
It's time to bust out a story about TSP.
Imagine being in 8th grade and being recognized for your excellence!

My name is Wendi Messing Gilbert,  Creator of "Everything Digital" for Michael.  Michael was my 8th grade drama teacher. We've kept in touch for 50 years. He's been rocking the TSP thing this whole time.

Michael's Tradition of TSP on Opening Nights

The cast walks into the dressing room. Colorful pieces of paper are taped all around the 4 walls and a carnation flower in front of each person's spot.

From the smallest part in the cast to lighting and props., everyone was recognized.

EVERY opening night of every show we ever did.  Important enough to save.
